B-2 Visitors who do not fall under the Visa Waiver Program must apply for their visas at the closets US Consular /Embassy in their country of origin. 

 

The following are acceptable B-2 (Visitor) Activities:

 

· Tourists

· Individuals wishing to enter the US for shopping trips

· Individuals wishing to enter to visit friends or relatives in the US

· Individuals wishing to enter the US to seek medical attention and

· Individuals wishing to attend conventions and or conferences not related to business.

 

 

This category can also be used for household members of non-immigrants in other categories who do not themselves qualify for under the same category. These may be domestic partner or elderly parent of an L or H-1B visa holder. The B-2 Category also covers family members of foreign nationals who are crewmen or belong to the armed services.

 

Tourist  must prove non-immigrant intent under the B-2 Category. This means they must be prepared to show:

 

· Financial arrangement for the trip, or other factors showing financial sufficiency of the foreign national

· Specificity of trip plans

· Ties to the foreign nationals home country

· Ties to the United States
